Meet Cute and the Pixie Girl concept. The Romantic Comedy idea of the magical, manic pixie girl is a movie cliche. Wild, crazy, fun-loving women do not immediately latch onto shy, inarticulate fellows for the purpose of helping these fellows break out of their shells. And if such a woman did exist, and latched onto an actual shy guy, the result might not turn out so well for the shy guy. (See also Katherine Hepburn’s Bringing Up Baby)

However, a lot of moviegoers are shy fellows who secretly wish a beautiful woman would magically latch onto them and find them adorable. Because of this movie audience psychology, the pixie girl concept has traction with a paying public.

Moviegoers of many different stripes do seem to like to see two people “meet cute” — that is, two people who have no particular reason to connect with each other manage to do so anyway. Sometimes there’s instant attraction (as in this script). In other Meet Cute romantic comedy stories, instant animosity is faced and overcome during the story arc.
